HOWTO: Gain Rank

From BattlegroundWiki

In order to gain rank (and access to the higher tier equipment and other perks like binoculars) you must accumulate a high score. The higher your score for a mission, the further towards the next rank you will advance.

Calculating Your Score

  • Score is based on kills, tasks and RTB status
  • All kills are scored as a relative value of your vehicle based on RDP
  • Kills of equal value are worth 10 points
  • Kills have a maximum value of 40 points each
  • Tasks are scored as follows:
    • 1 point for each infantry that mobile spawns
    • 1 point for damaging enemy AI
    • 10 points for damaging ABO bridge(s)
    • 10 points for repairing DBO bridge(s)
    • 10 points for damaging factory(s)
    • 10 points for damaging firebase(s)
  • Final score is modified by your RTB status
    • 100% of score if RTB
    • 90% of score if RES
    • 75% of score if MIA
    • 50% of score if KIA

General Tips

  • RTB as soon as you get a kill. Don't hang around waiting for 'just one more'. Your score will be HALVED and it will take you twice as long if you are killed. At the very least try to get a RES.
  • Join a squad. Members of a squad help eachother out, and they will be much more helpfull in showing you the ropes and explaining things. They will also be able to share valuable game information, and are a wealth of knowledge.

Tips For Ranking Up In The Army

  • Creating an MSP is a fast and sure way to gain experience. One of the best things to do is Setup A Mobile Spawn Point in your own AB while defending. MSP icons attract players and each player that spawns will gain you 1 point. During a heavy attack on a large town you will gain lots of rank, once you have counted 50 players, despawn for your rank.
  • Find a town that needs the bridge repaired and spawn a sapper to help repair it. Towns with depots close the bridges are ideal, because you will be able to despawn right from the bridge and quickly rack up the points. Be carefull though, sometimes bridges are down because there are enemies close by.
  • Find towns with defense objectives. Find a good spot, close to a depot or armybase where EI is running around and kill one. If you're close to your AB or Depot you can despawn right away for the full rank. A spot close to an enemy spawnable depot or MSP is ideal.
  • Spawning ATR units and taking out tanks nets a huge score. ATR units are difficult to use however, do your homework first!
  • Find a town with a defend objective and at least infantry EWS going off. Go into a CP and wait for the EI to come. Depots that will be spawnable for the enemy are excellent, as the EI will focus on capturing these first.
  • If you are in a town that is contested, try to recapture the CP that is held by the enemy. This will award you extra points. Carefull, sometimes the EI will defend a CP from upstairs, listening for you to walk into the building.

Tips For Ranking Up In The Air

  • Ask someone if they will let you be their Tail Gunner. Players are often happy to have the extra set of eyes on board, and you will gain rank for your mission.
  • Towns close to enemy airfields generally have heavy EA cover. Try to find a target that is close by your airfield so you can run back to base quickly when you do get a kill.
  • Fly with a group. You will survive longer and there will be someone to help you if you get in trouble. Also, flying in a group will help you find a squad where you can fit in.
  • If you can fly a bomber, do a bombing run on a bridge with an ABO. This will net you as many points as killing an enemy aircraft. If you cannot fly a bomber, try to find someone who is willing to take you on a bridge-attack run (again, a squad member is ideal).

Tips For Ranking Up In The Navy

  • It's all about the Fairmiles.
  • Shooting down planes, taking out AI guns, and RTBing is the general (and somewhat tedious) way to rank up. Sinking enemy Fairmiles and killing things on the coast is fun if you can use the deck gun well. Just stay away from tanks and destroyers.
  • You can also multicrew with destroyers. Just make sure you know how to use them first.
