Understanding Brigade Movement

From BattlegroundWiki

In Version 1.21 of Battleground Europe, we moved away from a spawning system where each and every town had exactly the same number of units in each town, and moved to having a limited amount of supply contained within a Brigade.

First we need to define a Division. A Division is a collection Brigades and a Division HQ. The DivHQ usually sits behind the front and is used to resupply the Brigades.

Lets look at how Brigades move around the map. To move a Brigade the HC officer must be in that Brigade. They then must select the town on the map that they wish to move the Brigade to and type /moveb (/movebrigade).

If they wish to move the Division, they can be in any Brigade (of the Division they want to move) and type /moved (/movedivision).

Once a Division or Brigade has been moved there is a 15 minute delay before it can be moved again.

How Brigades Move

The following has been plagerised from [KFS1's Blog]

map1.png This is the opening scenario. Our two Brigades and DivHQ are located in Grimsby. There are a few towns linked to Grimsby that we can move our Brigades to.
map2.png An HC officer moves B1 and B2 to Swinhope and Louth respectively.
map3.png He moves the Division HQ up to Swinhope. Doing so appears to be invalid because now B2 is no longer within 1 link of the division. This is true. But B2 wasn't moving, so it is left alone.
map4.png He moves B1 to Binbrook. B2 is still isolated off in Louth.
map5.png B2 need resupply, so an HC officer moves DivHQ to Tetney so that supply can be moved to B2. This is a valid move because Tetney is one-link from a divisional member - even though the member was previously isolated.
map9.png The movement rule is a limitation on where you can move to. The destination must be within a link of another divisional member. So, B1 couldn't move further away from DivHQ, say to Tealby. It could move back to Swinhope however, since this would put it one link from a divisional member.
map10.png However if the DivHQ were to move up one more place then B1 would become stuck, because none of the linked towns are 1 link from a divisional member anymore.
